Five Ways to Mix Colours
Perceptual (OKLab) gives smooth, natural blends that match how we see colour. RGB averages screen values, which is what most tools do. Linear light mixes physically correct light and gives brighter results. HSL blends hue, saturation and lightness and keeps colours vivid. Paint (RYB) mimics real pigments, so blue plus yellow gives green and red plus yellow gives orange.
Why Red + Blue Isn't Always Purple
Digital screens add light, while paint subtracts it, so the same two colours can mix to very different results. Compare all five methods side by side to see exactly how much they differ for your colours.
Mixing Ratios and Steps
Change the weight of each colour to fine-tune the blend, or generate 3 to 21 evenly spaced steps between your first two colours - ideal for gradients, charts and design systems.
Copy CSS Ready to Use
Export the mix as a modern CSS color-mix() expression, a list of steps, a linear gradient or JSON. Check WCAG contrast against white and black before you use the colour for text.
