Frequently Asked Questions

A routing number (US/Canada) or sort code (UK) uniquely identifies a bank branch for electronic transfers. US routing numbers are 9 digits. UK sort codes are 6 digits (XX-XX-XX format). These codes are needed for wire transfers, direct deposits, and electronic payments — similar to how SWIFT/BIC codes work for international transfers.

SWIFT codes (also called BIC codes) are 8-11 character codes used for international wire transfers. Format: 4-letter bank code + 2-letter country code + 2-character location code + optional 3-character branch code. Always needed when sending or receiving international bank transfers between different countries.

International wire transfer requirements: recipient's full name, bank account number (or IBAN in Europe), bank name and address, SWIFT/BIC code, and sometimes an intermediary bank's SWIFT code. In Europe, IBAN (International Bank Account Number) combines the country code, check digits, and account details in one string. Always verify details directly with the recipient before sending large amounts.
